Save Sundarbans Committee demands cancellation of Rampal power plant agreement.
National Committee of Save Sundarbans has demanded cancellation of the Rampal coal fired Power plant agreement immediately. Convener of the committee and former Adviser of Caretaker Government Sultana Kamal made the demand at a press conference at the National Press Club. Pointing that as per information and logic of many local and foreign environmentalists the Rampal Coal Fired Power Plant would make irreparable loss to the environment of the Sundarbans she said the unflinching stance of Bangladesh and the Indian governments about construction of the Rampal plant has created deep concern among the people. Sultana Kamal also termed the day of signing the agreement with India as a black day.
Newly appointed Russian Ambassador to Bangladesh Alexander Ignoitive made a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the Prime Minister’s office this morning. They discussed matters relating to various issues. Later, Thai Ambassador Panpimon Suanna Pongsey also met the Prime Minister. Besides, Deputy Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces of Saudi Arabia Air Marshall Fayad Bin Hamed Al Ruwaili made a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
A Buddhist monk named U Pai Ditta has been critically injured in attack by his own follower at Ui Matara Buddhist temple in Cox’s Bazar. Police Super of Cox’s Bazar Shaymol Kumar Nath said the attack was launched by one Mong Yang Mong with rod and stick after failing to realise money for drug. The injured monk has been kept at the ICU of Cox’s Bazar Sadar hospital.
