Forecast of earthquake in Bangladesh in US magazine Geo Nature Science is hypothetical. Claiming this, analysts said, there is no existence of any fault in the center of the country. According to them, there is likelihood of high intensity tremor along at least six fault lines lying about 200 to 300 kilometers away from Bangladesh. Under the circumstances, the analysts advised not to get panicked but to take necessary preparation alongside care in constructing infrastructure to check damages during a tremor. However, Dhaka University professor on Geo Science Dr. Syed Humayun Akhtar who headed the research along with an expert, Stekler of Columbia University of USA said the forecast is not hypothetical but based on long research of 12 years through installation of GPS machines at 26 points of the region.
The process of shifting prisoners from Dhaka Central Jail to the new jail at Keraniganj has got underway. About 6 thousand 500 inmates are being shifted in phases. IG Prison, Brig. Gen. Syed Iftekhar Uddin said all the inmates are expected to be shifted by this evening. He said privileged prisoners, militants, top terrors and women prisoners were already sent to Kashimpur jail on security ground. The new jail at Rajendrapur in Keraniganj, situated on about 194 acres of land is the most modern and largest prison in Asia and capable of accommodating around 8 thousand inmates. Huge number of members of various detective agencies including RAB and police have been deployed along the seven kilometre road between the central jail at Nazimuddin Road in old Dhaka to Keraniganj to ensure all out security.
Law Minister Barrister Anisul Haq has directed the Deputy Commissioners to contact the ministry’s special cell if problems crop up in conducting cases relating to militancy. The directive came in the last session of the four-day DC conference at the secretariat. Earlier, Information Minister, Hasanul Haq Inu and Shipping Minister, Shahjahan Khan held separate meetings with the Deputy Commissioners at the DC conference, which began on the 26th of July. The DCs were urged to be alert while implementing the 19-point directives of the Prime Minister that also includes curbing militancy.
BNP has claimed that the government is conducting heinous activities in the name of curbing militancy. It also stated that the anti-militant raid at Kallyanpur in the capital is questionable. BNP Senior Joint Secretary General, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi made the statement at a news conference at BNP Chairperson’s Gulshan office. At this time, he also alleged that the government is selling out the country’s sovereignty through secret agreements including the deal to construct Rampal Power Station. Rizvi claimed that militancy is rising due to autocratic behavior of the government.
Awami League Publicity Secretary, Hasan Mahmud has called for arresting those BNP leaders who are making confusing statements after the killing of the militants at Kallyanpur. He was speaking at a discussion at Dhaka Reporters Unity auditorium today. Hasan Mahmud also raised questions about the purpose of anti-government programme of the national committee for protection of oil and gas at a time when the entire country has taken an anti-militant stance.
Demanding that Jamaat e Islam has to be banned first in order to curb militancy, Imam of Sholakia Eidgah, Allama Wahidudding Masud said, Islam never supports killing of human beings. Speaking at a discussion marking anti-militancy day at Chowdhury Para Iqra Bangladesh Auditorium, he suggested to streamline the education system side by side setting up a Research Cell to combat militancy. The Allama also demanded to cancel the books instigating militancy and extremism from the textbooks of government madrasas.
United Islamic Party has called for forging social movement against terrorism comprising Imams and Mussalis at every locality. Speaking at a discussion in the Capital, they also urged to hold anti-militancy and terrorism awareness programmes in the educational institutions. At the same time, the speakers also demanded not to harass the Alems in the name of search. Central leaders of the Party including the Chairman Moulana Ismail Hossain spoke at the occasion.
